Maguire vs. Board of Education

Maguire vs. Board of Education Tobey Maguire loves his Pleasantville and Seabiscuit director, Gary Ross, so much that he's teaming up with him yet again for The Crusaders.

It's not about the actual Crusaders, as in Christians who took part in the Crusades. It's about the landmark Supreme Court case, Brown v. Board of Education. Maguire will play Jack Greenberg, a young idealist lawyer who helps the NAACP win the case that made segregation in schools illegal.

Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall has yet to be cast; Terrence Howard was once rumored to be connected to the project, but that was back in 2005, when the director was rumored to be Brad Silberling, so don't count on anything (although I think Howard would be a good choice).

Oh, and lest I forget the movie's Buffy the Vampire Slayer connection: Danny Strong, who was just nominated for an Emmy for writing Recount, has been hired to write the Crusaders script. Who would have guessed our dear, sweet Jonathan would go on to write blockbuster movies starring Tobey Maguire? You never know; he just might earn an Oscar nod this time.
