The 2012 summer movie season has had its fair share of hits so far (The Avengers, Ted, The Amazing Spider-Man) but one film has loomed large over the multiplex landscape ever since the spring breeze gave way to summer heat: The Dark Knight Rises. The premiere of the third and final chapter in Christopher Nolan's genre redefining Batman series is now just two weeks away and Hollywood is clearing the way for his arrival: between now and the film's July 20th release date, the only major movie opening in wide release is the fourth Ice Age adventure. Yup, even the other studios are dying to see what Nolan has come up with.

Listen bud, Spider-Man may be strong (he's got radioactive blood) and can swing from a web (take a look overhead) but is he mighty enough to survive the biggest challenge of all... a franchise reboot? We'll find out on July 3 when The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters featuring an all-new wall crawler (Andrew Garfield replaced Tobey Maguire), an all-new director (Marc Webb taking over from Sam Raimi), an all-new origin story (what's the deal with Peter Parker's missing dad anyway?) and an all-new tone (dark like Batman Begins rather than bright and colorful like the original Spider-Man).

Next to The Dark Knight Rises, no summer blockbuster has us more intrigued than Prometheus, Ridley Scott's belated return to the science fiction genre and the Alien franchise that rocketed his career into the stratosphere some three decades ago.

Guess who's back... back again.

We're still having trouble believing that, in a little over a month, we're actually going to see an Avengers movie starring Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk that was written and directed by Joss Whedon. Truly, we are in a golden age for geek cinema.

On April 6, it'll be time to party like it's 1999. That's because the entire ensemble of the original American Pie -- yes, even Tara Reid -- are getting back together for American Reunion. Because the only thing funnier than sex-obsessed high school students are sex-obsessed almost-thirtysomethings. Wait, did we say funnier? We meant sadder.

It's T-minus one month until the March 23 release The Hunger Games, which you all named your most anticipated 2012 release in our Movies Without Pity Awards. And we like the way you think.

What's worse that Jar Jar Binks and Jake Lloyd? Jar Jar Binks and Jake Lloyd in 3D, of course!

Over the course of his career, Liam Neeson has proven his mettle against an international prostitution ring, Sith lords, a haunted house and Batman. Now in the new Joe Carnahan-directed survival tale, The Grey, the Irish actor takes on one of his fiercest opponents: a pack of wild wolves.

Steven Spielberg gets his epic on with this sweeping story of a boy and his horse set against the backdrop of World War I. When a poor British farmer spends all of his savings on the titular steed at an auction, his young son forms a strong bond with the horse -- which he names Joey -- that continues even after it is shipped away to the front. The horse then passes through the hands of various owners, while the boy grows up and goes to war himself.
