The Finder: No Bones About It

The Finder: No Bones About It

This show was created as a spinoff of Bones, and they did a backdoor pilot during the course of the last season (which was awkward and terrible, like those things usually are). But the official premiere episode of The Finder didn't really have much in common with Bones at all: there was no quirky science, little in the way of gross corpses and no FBI agents. Instead, we got a former military man who has a special gift (not a learned one, like Brennan), a reluctant U.S. Marshal who helps him out on occasion, a big beefy partner and an insufferable juvenile delinquent serving probation at his bar for no real reason. The best and most original thing going for the show is the cute little maze in the title logo. In fact, this procedural "drama" feels more like a USA Network program than the spinoff of a once-clever Fox medical cop show.

Bones: You’d Better Shape Up

Bones: You’d Better Shape Up

Bones has long been the one crime-fighting procedural show that I watch on a regular basis. There are others that I find enjoyable (I'm loving Lie to Me right now, and Castle is growing on me) but Bones has always been the one that I watch the night it airs and really look forward to. Lately though, its been really off, and I'm getting sort of discouraged. Its spot on an already overcrowded Thursday night -- as well as the other recent scheduling issues -- isn't helping matters at all. It's fast going from a favorite to frustrating in my book. I hope that things get turned around, and soon. Here are my biggest issues with the show.

Practice Star Makes Bones Perfect

Practice Star Makes Bones Perfect

As has become my weekly tradition, I again find myself writing about Bones. But I swear this week was a really great episode (check out the video after the jump if you don't believe me). So good that I wish I had watched it on Weds. when it aired, but I was off watching Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe wave his um, magic wand around on stage. So I'm delayed in my enthusiasm, but that's nothing against the episode. Anyway, the case was about dog-fighting, and there was lots of good banter and plenty of moments of Brennan being awkward about not dealing with human emotions. And cute scenes of Booth showing off his parenting skills (for the record, he was never carried around like a monkey by a girl). But the best part was that this week's rotating grad student du jour was played by former Practice star Michael Badalucco. He was a former used car salesman, veterinary assistant and wannabe forensic anthropologist. He was clever, had a diverse and interesting past and really fit in well with the Jeffersonian squints. If they ever decide they want a permanent person to replace Zack, I'd say Badalucco's Scott would be a good fit. Not annoying, was able to cope with the neurotic Hodgins and seemed to know his stuff. If not, here's hoping they at least bring him back again once and while.

What Does Bones Have in Common With Wipeout?

What Does Bones Have in Common With Wipeout?

You'd think nothing... but you'd be wrong. On last night's episode, I was watching the giggly hostess of Wipeout (aka Jill Wagner) on an episode of Bones where she played a skanky girl who was almost charged with murdering her lovah. She's trying to work some weird accent here (ineffectively, as she loses it part of the way through) but like, it was hilarious to me to see a woman who interviews grown men in toucan costumes for a living trying to play something a little more gritty. And really, she was better than I expected, because on Wipeout she can't keep a straight face to save her life and she flubs lines and names constantly (which is part of her charm).

Bones Gets All British

Bones Gets All British

I know, Bones is a procedural and normally I'm not a procedural kind of girl, but I love this show. It just makes me happy. It's funny, and gory... and really, what more could I ask for? Now that they've got that whole ridiculously irritating and unsatisfying Gorgomon serial killer storyline out of the way, they are back on track. The season premiere was especially amusing, lots of great stuff with David Boreanaz's Booth suffering from culture clash during his trip to London with the sassy Dr. Brennan. And lots of Brennan making sexual innuendos about hot brainy guys, just to get a rise out of Booth. I just laughed, and then was grossed out, and then laughed some more, and then was sad for a minute and then laughed some more at the site of Booth in an itty bitty car. If you missed it, you can watch the whole episode after the jump. Trust me, even if you haven't been watching the show, you can hop right into this episode.

No Bones About It

No Bones About It I've talked to David Boreanaz on a number of occasions and aside from the time that he didn't believe that my real name was Angel (long story), he's always been pleasant and laid back when we've chatted. This was also the case on Friday during his conference call with reporters where he was hyping the return of Bones (which has been moved, again, to a new night). He happily dished about his producing status and how he really doesn't care so much about the on-going serial killer storyline that's been happening this season, as it isn't the goal of the show. "For me, I've always maintained that the show is the relationship, maintained that the show is about the characters and I maintain that the show is about the two of us [Brennan, played by Emily Deschanel, and Booth, played by Boreanaz] learning through the crimes and that journey that we take. That, to me, is the most important part." He then happily gabbed about how he created this character and the research that he did.

Way to give Aaron Sorkin an even bigger ego, everybody.
