MasterChef Junior: Is It TV’s Best Cooking Show?

MasterChef Junior: Is It TV’s Best Cooking Show?

If I counted up the hours I regularly spent watching cooking shows, I'd probably give myself indigestion. And lately, even my favorite shows have been underwhelming. Hell's Kitchen is just a blur of profanity, Top Chef is insanely talented people who have all blended together in a competent James Beard Award-winning way and the Food Network stuff always tends to be quickly forgotten. I particularly thought I'd reached my limit of Gordon Ramsay programming (even though I continue tuning in to Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and MasterChef out of habit), and yet my daughter convinced me to watch MasterChef Junior with her and I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did this show reinvigorate my adoration of Ramsay as a TV personality but also renewed me hope that we could see more kid-based reality shows that doesn't involve them singing or dancing on America's Got Talent or focus on their parents like Dance Moms. Here are the best things I've learned this season watching MasterChef Junior.

The Most Heinous Person on Reality TV This Week

Our favorite person this week had to be drunk Kris Jenner brushing her teeth with a Dora the Explorer toothbrush and TP'ing her daughter Kim's house. It totally made up for her talking about her problems peeing. Other reality stars this week were not so entertaining in their awfulness.

Why Great Escape Is Gordon Ramsay’s Most Enjoyable Show

Right now we're inundated with shows that feature celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. Not only is Hell's Kitchen on several nights a week, but thanks to Masterchef and Kitchen Nightmares, Fox pretty much has him on year-round. And BBC America airs the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares as well. It's a whole lot of Gordon Ramsay to deal with. So when I saw that the second season of another show of his was airing on BBCA, I was less than enthused, to say the least. But then after my mother (a lover of all shows Ramsay) watched several episodes and raved about them, I felt compelled to at the very least check it out. You know how moms can be.

TWoP 10: Summer Shows We Never Thought We'd Watch

We have to admit that during the year, we are very hard on shows (it's our job!), but in the summer, there are only a handful of series like Breaking Bad and True Blood that are Emmy-worthy. To get us through these barren months, we've got our reality staples like Big Brother and So You Think You Can Dance, and teen guilty pleasures like Pretty Little Liars and Degrassi, but that's not enough to fill our DVRs. So, we routinely lower our standards to discover some shows that might not be must-see during the regular season, but are tolerated -- and maybe even appreciated -- in the summer television doldrums.

The Most Heinous Person on Reality TV This Week

The new season of Big Brother starts on Thursday, at which point we fully expect some of those housebound idiots to be vying for this coveted title on a regular basis. Until then, we're stuck sifting through housewives, home cooks and social media "experts" to see who really deserves to be called the most heinous reality personality of the week.
