<I>Are You There, Chelsea?</i>: A Surprisingly Successful Buddy Comedy for the Weaker Sex

I'm not really sure who over at NBC thought it would be a wise decision to kick off Are You There, Chelsea? with Chelsea (Laura Prepon) getting arrested for a DUI. Apparently, the story is taken from Chelsea Handler's actual book, but trying to get audiences on board with a character who drinks and drives seems like an impossibly worse idea than convincing people to accept the idea of a mancession or tolerate Whitney Cummings. Even worse, those few minutes also managed to make me appreciate Ryan Murphy for giving Dot Jones the chance to play a character on Glee who's not a "lesbian jailbird." Yeesh.

We've started celebrating Independence Day a few days early, and we're especially happy because the past TV season allowed us to finally get away from some truly terrible characters. Thank goodness for deaths and cancellations. We'll light some sprinklers in these people's honor.

A ton of shows were cancelled this season, many of which deserved to go. But although we may not have shed tears over the programs themselves, there's quite a few specific elements that we're going to miss.

The Cancelled 2011-12 TV Shows We'll Miss the Least

We're still shocked that Whitney got renewed, but most of the cancellations this season made sense. While we would have gladly watched another season of A Gifted Man and our moms would have loved more of The Finder, we're having a hard time getting really upset about any of the axings this year (except for maybe Best Friends Forever, which had more potential than Whitney). In fact, there are certain shows we're downright excited to see disappear from the TV schedule. Here's the ones we'll miss the least:
