8 Ways to Fix Brothers & Sisters

8 Ways to Fix Brothers & Sisters This list ended up being pretty harsh, so I feel the need to preface it by saying that I really do enjoy this show. It's probably my biggest guilty pleasure -- it's a lot of fun at times (dinner parties! Conference calls! Kevin one-liners!), I think many of the performances are spectacular, and I do continue to root for it despite the many reasons any sane person would have stopped over a year ago. But I'm sorry, this show is a damn mess, and there a million things that need to be done to improve it. I'm not going to attempt to list every single one of them here, because no show can ever be perfect and a complete list would be about 20,000 words, but here are some major flaws that, if fixed, could make the show a lot less embarrassing for me to admit watching.

Rian Johnson Serves Up Scoop on Looper, Brick and Breaking Bad

Rian Johnson Serves Up Scoop on Looper, Brick and Breaking Bad

Setting a Philip Marlowe-like detective story, complete with pulpy dialogue and a twist-laden narrative, in high school sounds like a recipe for disaster. But writer/director Rian Johnson somehow pulled it off in his 2005 breakthrough Brick, a movie that's acquired a devoted cult following in the seven years since its release. Johnson himself has gone on to acquire a significant fanbase as well, through his work on movies like The Brothers Bloom and two terrific episodes of Breaking Bad, Season 3's "Fly" and Season 5's "Fifty-One." His latest feature Looper, which opens on Friday, reunited Johnson with his Brick star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays Joe, a hitman living in a near-future where time travel is used by the Mob to get rid of any undesirables. These assassins -- or "loopers" -- are tasked with killing the people their bosses send back in time, a job that Joe carries out with relish... that is until he discovers that his next target is none other than his future self (Bruce Willis). On a recent publicity tour though New York, Johnson sat down to talk with us about time travel movies, whether he'll ever revisit Brick and if he'll be directing one of the finale eight episodes of Breaking Bad.

USA Network Upfront 2012: Characters, Extremely Defined Jawlines Still Welcome

In what was truly a breath of fresh air after several weeks of upfronts madness, yesterday's USA Network presentation at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall -- the final event of the season -- didn't feature a single word from any executive. It's a long-standing tradition at the cabler to have their stars do the talking, which means a minimum amount of industry speak... and way more scripted banter. Since USA has acquired the syndication rights to Modern Family, the highlight of the evening was a digital short of series co-creator Steven Levitan standing in front of the Pritchett-Delgado house saying how excited he was to be part of the USA family, only to have Ed O'Neill, in character as Jay, come out and angrily demand, "Hey, get the fuck out of my driveway!" It was followed with the Modern Family framed-moment title song , where the casts of each USA original series held up a little frame until the final shot ended on the Modern Family theme final still. Another highlight, especially to WWE fans, was the announcement that in honor of Monday Night Raw's 1,000th episode, the series will now be expanded to three hours every week.
