Teen Wolf: Why the Season Finale Left Us Howling For More

After watching the pilot, we were inclined to write off Teen Wolf as another failed attempt by MTV at capturing teen life. And we were put off by the fact that it lacked the humor and charm of the movie that it was supposed to be loosely based on. But we decided to watch another episode, and then another, and week by week the show steadily got better and more intriguing. By the time the kids were all locked in at school while being chased by the Alpha werewolf, we were completely hooked. And then last night's season finale had the decency to actually deliver. What a wonderful surprise from this summer show. Here's why the finale rocked:

MTV’s Teen Wolf: Once Bitten, Twice Shy?

MTV’s Teen Wolf: Once Bitten, Twice Shy?

If you're of a certain age (we don't have to specify), you already know the premise. And even if you're not familiar with the goofy '80s movie starring Michael J. Fox, the title Teen Wolf pretty much sums it up: boy gets bit by werewolf (or inherits a werewolf curse or whatever); boy becomes werewolf. But with the endless supply of supernatural fare available to MTV's demo nowadays -- Twilight, True Blood, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, even Harry Potter -- is there any reason for teens or anyone else to bother getting invested in yet another variation on that theme? Much to our surprise, the network managed to keep things relatively fresh during last night's premiere.

TWoP 10: Best New Scripted Shows of This Summer

We could go on for days about our love of Dance Moms, or about how much we've enjoyed this sexed-up season of True Blood, but we expect to be entertained by reality TV trash and our favorite returning shows . What really surprised us this summer was just how many new scripted programs kept us genuinely enthralled -- a pleasant change from the years when all we had to watch in between trips to the pool and barbecues was the likes of Swingtown. And bonus points to ABC Family for really upping their game as a network in recent months. Here's what made it a summer to remember:

TWoP 10: Summer Shows We Never Thought We'd Watch

TWoP 10: Summer Shows We Never Thought We'd Watch

We have to admit that during the year, we are very hard on shows (it's our job!), but in the summer, there are only a handful of series like Breaking Bad and True Blood that are Emmy-worthy. To get us through these barren months, we've got our reality staples like Big Brother and So You Think You Can Dance, and teen guilty pleasures like Pretty Little Liars and Degrassi, but that's not enough to fill our DVRs. So, we routinely lower our standards to discover some shows that might not be must-see during the regular season, but are tolerated -- and maybe even appreciated -- in the summer television doldrums.

TWoP 10: Summer Shows We're Most Excited For

Summer used to be a time for ridiculous reality shows and reruns, but the season is now jam-packed with new and returning series, so much so that it's almost a challenge to keep up with the amount of shows premiering each week. We even had a tough time narrowing the list of shows we're anxiously awaiting down to these ten.
