Welcome to the Family: Thanks, But We’ll Stick With Our Own

You know, I may not have been 100 percent on board with NBC's last attempt at creating its own Modern Family-style comedy hit, Ryan Murphy's The New Normal, but I did appreciate that show's full-throated endorsement of blended families and the way it filtered the relationships between parents and their children (both of the grown-up and still-youthful variety) through a sweetly sarcastic lens. I found myself particularly missing Normal while watching its replacement: Welcome to the Family, a more straightforward Modern Family knock-off that's twice as annoying even the worst episode of The New Normal… and possibly even Glee. (Though that's a harder case to make, what with last season's school-shooting episode, among other things.)

Newlyweds: The First Year: Ranking the New Bravo Couples

Despite having pretty high expectations going into Newlyweds: The First Year, I wasn't disappointed by last night's series premiere. Bravo is essentially trying to do to marriage what MTV did with teen pregnancy via Teen Mom: show viewers what "actually" goes down once the initial afterglow fades away and reality sinks in -- a concept that isn't entirely original, but still generally unexplored in the low-budget TV landscape.

Unfortunately, while some of these surprises have renewed our faith in television, others may have had the opposite effect.

TWoP 10: Worst New Shows of the Fall

Every September we're baffled at the amount of new shows that are just downright terrible. We're talking about programs that have no business being on TV in the first place (think Cavemen or Viva Laughlin) but yet get a big push from their respective networks, luring in unsuspecting souls with a catchy one-liner and a flashy star who reminds viewers of a more pleasant series. As a public service, we've identified the new fall 2010 series that really should've come with warning signs. Avoid these at all costs.

The Most Heinous Person on Reality TV This Week

Brian from American Baking Competition and Krissi from Masterchef were too cocky and uppity when they got criticized, which is one of our pet peeves, but they both still survived elimination and managed to escape making our list.
