The Pretentious Illiterate is Bored to Death

The Pretentious Illiterate is Bored to Death OK, before I thought of that title I was super-psyched about my favorite comedian, Zach Galifianakis, joining the HBO pilot Bored to Death, but now I just can't get over how hilarious the idea of his "Pretentious Illiterate" character playing the part of a "struggling comic book artist" would be. Sadly, that's not the case, but I'll take Zach any way I can get him (I even watched Tru Calling for him. Tru Calling! Zach himself didn't even watch that show!).

Besides the whole struggling comic book artist thing, he'll also be playing the role of best friend to lead Jason Schwartzman's pseudo private investigator character. Ted Danson has also joined the pilot (don't worry, he's still coming back for much of Damages Season 2), as a magazine editor and mentor to Schwartzman's character. After having kind of ripped on this pilot when it was announced, I have to eat my words now. I think this is going to be an amazing show - Ted Danson, Jason Schwartzman and Zach Galifianakis roaming around NYC solving mysteries together? It's like having the Lone Gunmen back from the dead, but even better!
