Human Resources: Toby and Holly Talk Season 5 of The Office

Human Resources: Toby and Holly Talk Season 5 of The Office

For years, HR sad sack Toby has been a thorn in the side of The Office manger Michael Scott, not allowing him to have fun because the "fun" is usually mildly sexist, or racist, or both. Well, the Season 4 finale saw Dunder-Mifflin bid a fond (on Michael's part, anyway) farewell to Toby as he left for Costa Rica, and a lukewarm welcome to his beautiful and goofy replacement, Holly. In anticipation of the September 25th premiere of the new season, writer/producer Paul Lieberstein ("Toby") and Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan ("Holly") held a conference call where reporters got to ask them all of the questions we were dying to know about Season 5. The best parts are of the call are below, so enjoy! (That's what she said!)

‘I Choose Art Every Time’: Ricky Gervais on His Office, Our Office and the Decade’s Best TV

Ricky Gervais started this decade on the fringes of British radio. He'll start the next one hosting a major awards show (the Golden Globes, airing Jan. 17, 8PM ET, NBC). In between, among many other considerable achievements, he co-created and starred in what many would consider to be not only one of the best television shows of the decade, but of all time: The Office, seven and a half hours of perfectly calibrated, sometimes agonizing, dark comedy. As his opportunity to reach his biggest viewing audience to date approaches, Gervais spoke to us and other media outlets about his ground-breaking show, its U.S. version and his favorite American programming.

The Russian Office: Some Casting Suggestions

The Russian Office: Some Casting Suggestions It started in England, it moved to Scranton and now it's going to the Motherland! That's right, the next installment of The Office will be set in some droll and frozen city in Russia, via the BBC and some sexy and appropriately named production company called Red Square (I mean really, Red Square? You might as well call it "Snowy KGB Lenin Tolstoy Show Vodka Productions").

New Office News!

New Office News! As you might have deduced, we here at TWOP are borderline obsessed with The Office and thus deem any and all newsy tidbits related to the show worthy of posts. So forgive me for being so effing stoked about the following Office nuggets:

1) Steve "Awesomer Than Jesus" Carrell has inked a deal that commits him to three more years as the fantastic Michael Scott. Rejoice, mother effers!

2) A clip from an upcoming Office teaser webisode, which will air July 10th, has leaked online. It features Kevin making a bumbling attempt to get a bank loan for an ice cream company whose strategy seems to be buying other ice cream, giving the flavors funny names and reselling it. [Via Videogum]

That is all. Carry on.

Office Spin-Off Will Rule Your Ass

by Lauren Gitlin June 13, 2008 1:40 pm
Office Spin-Off Will Rule Your Ass Can I get a "fuck yeah"? Rumors of an Office spin-off are true and better than I could ever have hoped for: Aziz Ansari, of the genius MTV sketch comedy show Human Giant and the hilar-town Asiz Is Bored website (not to mention a full-fledged celeb amongst comedy nerds, of which I am one), is the first cast member that NBC has unveiled for the forthcoming show. Other news about casting and plot are being kept under wraps, but this news speaks volumes about the direction of the show and bodes well -- very well for its potential greatness. Office executive producer Greg Daniels told Variety, "We're meeting with a lot of cool people. We're trying to see how the pieces all fit together." The to-be-named show will premiere this winter right after the OG Office. In the words of Mindy, hollerate!

Ground Floor: A Mediocre Comedy, From Top to Bottom

Ground Floor: A Mediocre Comedy, From Top to Bottom

The biggest problem for the new TBS comedy Ground Floor isn't that it's yet another workplace sitcom, but that it's a workplace sitcom with a premise that's already been achieved to perfection by the likes of The Office, The IT Crowd, and Enlightened. Ground Floor may have a very similar concept as those three (the cultural and financial differences between the self-absorbed higher-ups upstairs and the everyday people working beneath them, literally and figuratively), but it lacks one key element that made them rise above the pack: an original sense of humor.
