Joss Whedon tries to sell Scarlett Johansson on the benefits of guest starring on his new S.H.I.E.L.D. series.

Finally, a Joss Whedon TV series that's guaranteed to be a ratings monster. The Avengers director will write and potentially helm a pilot for an ABC series based upon the exploits of Marvel's super-spy outfit S.H.I.E.L.D. Two questions: 1) Does this mean Cobie Smulders might finally free herself from the walking dead that is How I Met Your Mother? And, if Sam Jackson is unavailable, will David Hasselhoff get to suit up as Nick Fury one more time?

Looks like Charlie Sheen will be able to keep on affording his tiger blood infusions. As per their deal with the loose cannon actor, FX has ordered 90 additional episodes of Sheen's new sitcom Anger Management. The series will return in January, which gives the network a few more months to preemptively replace Sheen with Ashton Kutcher.

Also returning to U.S. TV screens in January -- and a series we're actually looking forward to seeing more of -- is the British phenom Downton Abbey. Photos of the show's third year just hit the web and gives us a peek at the formidable match-up of Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess and Shirley MacLaine's wealthy American relative Martha Levinson. Whoever wins... well, we all win.

Family Guy creator-turned-blockbuster feature filmmaker Seth MacFarlane will host the season premiere of Saturday Night Live on September 15, followed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt on September 22 and Daniel Craig on October 6. Alec Baldwin must be feeling sooooo neglected right now.

Bravo has granted Rachel Zoe's former stylist Brad Goreski another season of one our least favorite reality shows It's a Brad, Brad World and also announced plans to spin Most Eligible Dallas's Courtney Kerr off into her own show. As long as noted philanderer Juicy Joe Giudice isn't rewarded with his own series, we'll allow this.
