The countdown to the Mariah Carey/Nicki Minaj deathmatch begins in January.

Fox has announced that the latest incarnation of American Idol -- now featuring the dynamic, potentially deadly duo of Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj (as well as some dudes named Randy Jackson and Keith Urban) sitting in the hosting chairs vacated by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler -- will premiere with a two-night event on January 16. The network also scheduled the premiere of the Kevin Bacon-led The Following for January 21 and the second season of Kiefer Sutherland's snooze-inducing series Touch for February 1.

That Arrested Development reunion that we're still 50 percent worried is an elaborate prank will feature appearances by both Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter. At least, that's what Will Arnett implied when he stopped by Conan recently.

Barry Sloane, who plays Emily's revenge assistant on Revenge, has been made a series regular for the last 9 episodes of Season 2. Anyone who takes more screentime away from the Porter brothers is okay by us.

President Obama will tackle the concerns of young voters by appearing on a live Q&A session to be broadcast by MTV this Friday. We can't wait to hear his well-reasoned argument for why The Inbetweeners should be renewed.

Two TV characters should prepare themselves for visits from their (fictional) parents. Rick Worthy has been cast as Bonnie's dad on The Vampire Diaries, while Freda Foh Shen will play Joan Watson's mother on Elementary.
